I've been continuing the homage to the Arkham City lighting style with some fantastic cosplayers, and while I'm trying to hew as close to the original theme (stark white backdrops, rich shadows, blinding lights) tinkering within that concept has led to some really interesting chemistry experiments of light and color.
During a shoot with the very talented Amelia Vane (results of that shoot can be found over on the 16 Degrees Studios Facebook page) we had three such accidental successes I'm unexpectedly proud of. The center photo was a test of backlighting, a casual pose by the model, and while I'm not wild about how I arranged the backdrop, there is something mysterious and melancholy about it that makes it one of my favorite images from the entire shoot.
The bottom left photo was an experiment in Lightroom with boosting the green tinge. At the request of the model, I tried to find a way to give the impression of Poison Ivy's green skin. Because of the strong greens of her costume, this was shockingly easy to create through some light tinkering with color saturation--and saved hours of time with body paint to boot! This concept is something I'd love to try again with a different character, like Nightcrawler or Mystique.
The last photo (bottom right) was a playful shot suggested by the model as well. Trying to create a stormy looking background with the mottled gray backdrop, I toned down the lights and used a single bulb in a softbox. She grabbed a Batman comic off a bookshelf in the studio and her glasses and created a really great moment.
All this being said, the actual Arkham-style shots came out incredibly well, possibly the best in the series so far. But I couldn't resist posting these off-theme shots--they were just too good not to share.
More to come, with Lara Croft, the Scooby Doo gang, and Daenerys Stormborn herself stopping by the studio later this month.
